FINALLY...! HERE IS THE FINISHED NEWS BULLETIN!

Huge apologies for the delay in getting this uploaded (what's a few months between friends?!) but due to some technical difficulties and the unfortunate circumstances meaning both myself and Mrs Blaehr were absent from college for several weeks at the same time, it has taken quite some time to finally get this uploaded.

The Year 10s did a fantastic job on the day and particular credit has to go to the technical team who demonstrated some excellent editing and on-screen graphics skills.

Well done to everyone involved!

NEWS DAY UPDATE

Wow! We've had an amazing news day. The team have worked exceptionally well and covered lots of important and interesting topics. 

Unfortunately, due to technical issues, we haven't managed to upload our final TV news programme by the 4pm deadline - which the tech team are incredibly frustrated and upset about! 

However, we will endeavour to have it uploaded by the end of the day tomorrow!

Now it's home for a well-deserved rest. :)

Should parents be fined for taking their children out of school during term time (part two)

Head of Geography, Mr Gale, also shared his views on the topic of whether parents should be fined for taking their children out of school during term time...

How well did it go?

It went better than we expected and we finally found some areas to film which worked well for our story. By crossing to lower college period 2, it helped us massively as it was more quiet due to it being further away from the building site. We also found a classroom on lower with good framing positions for the camera to get the perfect shot for the reporters script reading.

What did we like?

We liked doing the interviews as most of them were answered in detail and their voices were clear and showed a strong opinion on the voting story. Being on Lower College was a big advancement compared to being based on Upper, as it gave different sound quality and places to film. We liked how we did a lot of the work independently and were trusted in our groups. This made the day a lot easier and fun.

What didn’t we like?

It took us a while before we found a location suitable to film in. Many places we thought would be ideal to film at were being used or were being disrupted by building work and students. When we had finally found the right location to film, after about 10 failed reports, it was perfect for what the report needed. Also, we did a lot of planning for the BBC School Report day, which we didn’t follow very well, mainly due to stress.

What failed?

We had trouble with the sound, as there were digger and drills in the background of the recording. We also had issues with the road as we tried to film outside the front of the school which is right next to a main road. Finding a quiet area/classroom was also difficult as most of the areas were busy.

What succeeded?

Our vox-pops and filming succeeded with no major problems and we got the footage over to the editors.

How was the BBC News School Report Day? By Nathan, Ryan and Guy

It all started with a bucket of water which I threw over Guy to entertain the audience and show them a piece of the island weather. We certainly did not enjoy the filming as something would go wrong!!! Exactly 33 times!! We also helped the other groups. During this we did some studio work as well as helping other groups with interviews. Although it was fun it was a very hard task.

Matt, Harry and Jordan's review of the news day

Today, our group have been working on the news story about the fixed link. It took us a lot of times to get everything correct. A good example of this was when Matt got his words confused for about the 10th time and we all started laughing. This was often quite funny like when Harry was shouting the countdown and being super dramatic with the camera and when Matt finally got the words right and someone just walked straight across. Luckily, in the end we got everything recorded without any errors. Today, we also did our interviews, this was quite stressful as it was hard to find people who were able to do it. It definitely made it harder as a lot of teachers that we asked were often busy setting up for classes or teaching.
